Christ is Risen! Happy Easter! My mom and I had fun making up and decorating desserts for a few family Easter gatherings. We decided to make a cute little display consisting of bird nests, eggs, and peeps!
The nests were very easy. I saw a picture on Pinterest and followed the recipe, which was VERY similar to rice krispie treats.
1. First melt 3 cups of mini marshmallows and 3 tablespoons of butter in a medium saucepan
2. Once melted, add ½ teaspoon of vanilla extract
3. The recipe called for 4 cups of chow mein noodles, but we used 3. Add chow mein noodles until all are fully incorporated.
4. Use rubber gloves or coat hands with shortening and take a palm full of the mixture and form into nest shapes with a dip in the middle for the eggs. (Work quickly because like rice krispies, they will harden in the pot and will become very difficult to work with)
5. Place on parchment paper and let harden. Place malted chocolate eggs inside.
As for the eggs, they are just Oreo balls in the shape of eggs! In case you haven’t made them before…
1. Crush 1 whole package of Oreo cookies until very fine (I used a big Ziploc bag and an ice cream scoop to crush them)
2. Once fine, place in a bowl and mix in one 8 oz package of cream cheese.
3. After fully incorporated, form into balls or in this case eggs (size could be whatever your preference is).
4. Place on parchment paper and then in freezer until frozen.
5. Melt white chocolate bark in the microwave or in double boiler.
6. Dip the Oreo balls in the white chocolate and place on parchment paper.
7. The decorating is up to your imagination!
And for the grass, we food colored shredded coconut! That's it!
